In this blog I am responding to an assignment in my ENG 101 composition class on climate change. The assignment asked me to read the article,'New York Is Lagging as Seas and Risks Rise, Critics Warn and read the first three comments under "Reader's Picks."In this blog I will discuss about New York city's climate change and the steps taken by the New York officials for the environmental awareness. Talking about climate change, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's really taking a step to create a difference by, expanding wetlands to accommodate surging tides, installing green roofs to absorb rainwater and prodding property owners to move boilers out of flood-prone basements.Critics say that even though officials take steps for environmental awareness its still too slow to address the issue because the critics say, flooding could paralyze transportation, cripple the low-lying financial district and temporarily drive hundreds of thousands of people from their homes if the action is not fast enough. The article also stresses that city, state and federal agencies should invest on sea gates that will help during the time of floods. According to Mitch M, from the reader's pick, I feel that he is totally lethargic and ignorant about the whole issue about New York's climate change. As Adam Freed said,“It’s a million small changes that need to happen” More awareness and seriousness about the rise in sea levels and climate change should be made so that people become more aware of this issue.
